4 interesting Kickstarter food campaigns

11 April 2016

Food is one of the hottest areas for investment and startups. Occasionally, I like to dip into Kickstarter to see the kinds of projects, products and startups that are being launched and funded. Kickstarter food campaigns are also a good indicator of the types of food and innovations are coming through.

Baobab Superfood Chia Pudding Mix

This Birmingham-based company offers a range of pudding mixes based on Baobab. Their hugely informative Kickstarter page offers a lot of information about this superfood and its nutritional and health benefits. They work directly with farmers in Africa to ensure a 100% organic product and to empower the growers and make an lasting impact on poverty.

More information at their Kickstarter page.

Reidsway healthy vegan snacks

These dried rather than baked or fried snacks came about when founder Alexandria Reid had to change her diet. Crisps were her biggest weakness so she set about creating a gluten-free, vegan alternative that was tasty and nutritious. Already in a number of independent juice bars and cafes, the aim of the Kickstarter campaign is to invest in infrastructure to help get the range into more outlets in bigger quantities.

The Inherited Kitchen, Sheffield

Looking for funding for premises and projects is common on Kickstarter. What caught my eye about The Inherited Kitchen is the focus on cold-pressed juices and began options for coffee lovers. Packing food and drink full of nutrients and removing allergens is in demand and businesses like this are catering for changing diets.

Follow the Kickstarter or check the Inherited brand (they also run a barber shop) on Twitter.

SnakiHak Paleo Baking Mixes

Paleo-compatible snacks have been a feature in the healthy snack market for a while now – even being adapted to Valeo (or Vegan-Paleo). However, this Kickstarter aims to create kits for baking your own Paleo snacks and treats at home. The project is the idea of personal chef Ebony Gordon as a means to bring good quality, clean food to market.
