Winners at the Free From Food Awards 2021

9 June 2021

We were delighted to see that several of our customers were winners at the recent Free From Food Awards! Join us in celebrating these awesome food producers and take a look at the products that impressed the judges.

What are the awards all about?

The Free From Food Awards are the UK’s only dedicated award for products that are free from at least one of the 14 main allergens. They celebrate the very best in free from and you may recognise their yellow logo with a large black F. It means that the product has been rigorously taste tested and has compliant labelling. Food and drinks that win these awards are seen as benchmarks in the business.

Free From Food Awards 2021The winners list is often dominated by retailer own-brands (this year certainly had a few) so it’s great to see many emerging producers breaking through. Since 2008 over 5,000 free from products have been blind tasted by specialist judging panels comprising of over a hundred chefs, manufacturers, dieticians and allergy reactors. Sponsors this year included: Schär, Nature’s Path, Romer Labs, Asda, Bute Island Foods, Planted, FREEE, Unismack, Nairns Oatcakes, Tesco, RSSL, Genius Gluten Free and Seedful.

Free From Food Awards 2021 winners

Free From Awards’ Cressida Langlands and Michelle Berriedale Johnson announced the winners online.

Dizzy Bee Gluten-Free Pecan & Quinoa Granola: We’re really proud of Dizzy Bee, who came to us with products they were making from home. Now they’ve bagged a Bronze winner in the Breakfast Foods category with their “very different and exciting” pecan and quinoa granola.

Bellygoodness submitted several of their sauces to the awards and were well rewarded – again (they won in the last set of awards in 2019). Their Bellygoodness Mediterranean Sauce won Silver in the Store Cupboard category and the Bellygoodness – White Sauce, Mediterranean Sauce, Chilli Sauce won Silver for Best Packaging “with easily recyclable glass bottles and clear, simple and effective brand design” and Bronze for Best Labelling for their “very simple and clear labelling”.

While we didn’t develop Hunter & Gather’s Unsweetened Barbecue Smokey Classic Sauce, they are also our customer and we’re delighted that they also won a Silver in the Store Cupboard category.

Having worked with them extensively, Origin Kitchen is a brand close to our hearts. Their spreads performed brilliantly at the awards with Origin Kitchen Creamed Cashew Mushroom & Dill Spread winning the Bronze Innovation Award in the sub category of companies under £100k turnover, and Origin Kitchen Creamed Cashew Sun-Dried Tomato Spread won Silver in the Vegan Snacks & Meal Ideas category and Best Product from a Start-up Silver medal.

We’re so pleased for our winners. It’s immensely gratifying to see them being recognised for their products, especially in free from categories with stiff competition from big players. Certainly, this year’s offerings range from simple and effective to never-before-seen innovation. Check out the full list here or enter the Christmas 2021 awards here.
