3 new food products to watch in 2017

29 December 2016

Food and drink product development is such an exciting area. As well as creating new products ourselves, we’re always interested in new products that are emerging. These new products are worth watching out for in 2017.

At the Food Matters show in November we managed to try some really great new products. Reducing food waste, food-on-the-move and free-from foods have been really significant movements this year and will continue to be important in 2017. When you develop a great taste experience too, you have a product that really works.

Snact

Snact is a fruit ‘jerky’ that is made using the ugly or surplus fruit from British suppliers. The founders of Snact are attempting to start a movement focused on having a positive impact on the world around them, the idea being that small changes can make a big difference if enough people do them. With a reported 33% of the food grown being thrown away, finding ways to minimise waste seems like a good aim.

Made in Britain and packaged in compostable packaging, we particularly liked the ethics on food waste. It was also a tasty product!

Fravacado

A Devon-made dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free alternative to ice cream, Fravacado is made using avocado and coconut milk as the main ingredient. It’s made in Dawlish in South Devon by a family business as a way of satisfying a serious ice cream addiction – without additives.

Fravocado tasted great! The three flavours on offer were delicious, the raspberry and basil swirl especially so.

Mightybee

Another tasty organic, raw, vegan snack. Mightybee is coconut ‘jerky’. Mightybee has developed a range of coconut-based products – also including coconut water and coconut meat. The jerky is made using a gentle dehydration process and is also free of refined sugar and preservatives.

The Spicy BBQ and Teriyaki flavours were particularly tasty as a meat-free ‘jerky’ snack.
